Chrismas and New Year Holiday

My family is having a reunion on my Dad's side, with my cousins from London, Texas, Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines. We plan to stay at a hotel near the beach and visit our newly built house. We haven't decided much on Christmas but on New Year we will light fireworks and go to Makati, Metro Manila to see the huge fireworks. 

College

I still have a year but college sounds a bit intimidating. All my cousins have given me advice but I'm stll not a assured. I will look forward to the independence and privledges but maybe teachers could be grumpy, I don't know. I wish good luck to the year 8's.

My Trip

Hey guys, my flight was okay, not bad. I'm now here in the Philippines. Singapore was great. There was a day when it was boiling hot, then in the afternoon it started raining hard. My hotel had five Asian Water Monitor Lizards and Asian Squirrels. A baby Monitor Lizard swam in the outdoor swimming pool. Nothing else happened much so yeah.

Dino Day Reflection

Dino Day was okay but the weather was miserable. It was wet and showering a bit. What we did was we got into groups of four or five and chose from a range of dinosaur figurines, researched them and made a short documentary on them. My group chose the ankylosaurus, stegosaurus and the pterodactyl. I didn't really like the filming part and the researching, I would of preferred just reading about them or drawing them. I'm typing this just after we finished our film, so I think if the weather clears up, we might have a game of Dino Dodgeball. I'm not sure how to play this game but hopefully it's as good as normal Dodgeball. Even though Dino Day isn't finished yet, I didn't really enjoy it much. It wasn't that bad but it was quite boring.

Fireworks on Guy Fawkes?

Should New Zealanders celebrate a guy called Guy Fawkes who had something to do with blowing up the English Parliament? I think New Year should be celebrated with fire works as I know it is in the Philippines. Fireworks can symbolize New Year like a new beginning as a firework explodes. I absolutely think that Guy Fawkes should be celebrated without fireworks, and New Year with fireworks.

My Future Job Choices

I have four job choices that I could pick from in university. My first choice would be I.T. (Information Technology) because my dad has that job. There are ranks in I.T. there is a Tester, Programmer and Architects. If I was to choose this job I should take Maths, Algebra and if available a computer subject. Being a writer has the least chance of coming true because your fame all depends on what type stories are. For example Crime, Suspense, Adventure and more. Being a Doctor is one of my back up plans for a job. But the problem is that the courses could take years to finish. The only reason I could be a Doctor is because once again my mum is a nurse. My last career is being an Architect. I enjoy drawing bird eye views of house plans. Lucky for me I'm moderately good at drawing. I am pretty confident in what I'll choose, but my parents will probably choose for me.

Holiday Fun!

In the holidays I got a brand new electric guitar! I already had an acoustic but the electric guitar can make different tones. For example Rock, Metal, Reggae and others. My electric guitar is black and white, and the neck up is wood. The electric guitar is quite heavy to an acoustic. The amplifier isn't that big, but it is recommended for a beginner. I have played it quite alot now.

As a reward for my school work and sports I got an Ipad mini. It sounds a bit much as a gift though. I don't use it much often.

We also went to the Porirua pool. It wasn't that cold now since it almost Summer. I mostly had to do laps but after a while I could go on the hydroslide.

I played basketball at home trying to improve on shooting. But it's hard doing it on a hoop thats smaller than the miniball hoop.

I did alot in the holidays and I thought it was great fun.

Frida Kahlo Art Week!

During Art Week we were given an artist. And our class got Frida Kahlo. We painted in her famous styles of art, we did portraits of ouselves with monobrows. But the other art she did was fruits. Instead of painting we used oil pastels. Most of her fruit paintings had a melon, "Viva La Vida" and a Mexican flag. Originally I was going to do two mangos, but my teacher said that I had to at least do three fruit. My third fruit was the coconut that is behind the mangos. When I finished doing that, I thought that I should do a tropical theme. So I ended up doing seven fruit ( There are three bananas). Frida Kahlo usually had her name on the bottom right. I was quite proud that I finished this art.

My Hobbies

My latest hobby is writing fictional stories. Usually my stories include magic, like people with hidden abilities. I like writing because I can put down my imagination into words. I did not know that I would like writing. When I was in year 4-6 (grade 2-4) I didn't really like writing. But when my teacher in year 6 (grade 4) told me I was quite good in writing I started to put most of my time into trying to write short stories at home. Reading is the most helpful thing I did because I gained lots of vocabulary from it and how authors write complex sentences.

Now as part of this task I need to ask you a question.

Medieval Minecraft - The Blacksmith

 I made our blacksmith in our medieval village, with another classmate we created this building. It didn't take that long, because our building didn't have to be enormous like our manor house.
It took us about less than two weeks. My classmate added the final touches because I'm not a Minecraft person.

Do you like Minecraft? Have you done a big project like this before?

Medieval Times reflection

We are in the middle of doing Medieval Times. For one of are class projects we need to create a medieval village in Minecraft. In groups we had to build our own building in the village. Iwas assigned to make the blacksmith. I have learned many things in this topic. Like how a plague wipe out the majority of a countries population. How merchants would travel to distant lands to seek rare items, and may encounter robbers or pirates. How offenders will be punished depending on their offence. How young knights would have to train all their childhood. And how the churches were powerful enough to start a war. Reading books and watching videos helped me to understand these.

Electives - Term 2 & 3

So back in Term 2 we started electives. Electives is kind of like groups of activities you can sign up on. You get to choose two, one for Term 2 and 3. For Term 2 I chose Technology Challenges. Technology Challenge is when the teacher comes up with this improvising activity, but you need to solve it with nothing more then paper and card board and other things. I think it was okay, sometimes the activities were fun but sometimes it was boring. But if you win, in the end the teacher gives you a prize. My second choice was Creative computers. In this group we get to create a world in Minecraft that has a challenge. And the other thing was that you create this mini film with a Mission Impossible theme.

Tech at Mt. Cook School

Every Monday Yr 7 and 8 students of St Benedict's travel by bus to Mt. Cook school to do Tech. Recently I have been doing wood work and since I'm just a Yr 7 I only get to carve to a spoon. My spoon is already finished and it looks quite good. In wood work there is alot of things you can learn about. What I liked doing most about my lessons in wood work was chiseling the spoon. One of the most important rule of wood work is that you can only use a pencil. But for some weird reason there is a container of felt pens in the classroom. My time in wood work is done because next I'm going to sowing.

Topic - Medieval Times

For our topic we have been learning about the medieval times. There was a rank of power and obviously the King was on top. Then came the Bishop and Baron, they both have the same amount of power. The Knights then come then Merchants. Then at the bottom are peasants. But I would also want to learn about the sports they played back then. For example jousting, gladiators and sword fighting and a lot more. And for fun activities I don't really have any great ideas.

Book Groups

This term we chose a book to read for the term. The first book I chose was The Silver Sword. It was written by Ian Serrailier. My book group was great because everyone discussed perfectly. We even got to bring snacks while we discussed because were getting along well.

The Blushing Flower

Well here is my flower. I know it is not that good. But I had to rush it, today is the due date that we need to give it to the teacher. The most embarrassing thing is that it's going up on the wall. Anyway I guess it's not one of my best paintings, but at least I finished it.

Latest Tasks!

This week we can write about any recent schoolwork we've done. This week we have to paint a picture of a flower in a style by a certain artist, Georgia O'Keefe. I'm not sure if that is the correct spelling of her name though. Anyway my picture is not bad even though I haven't finished it yet. I will show you my painting later.

I HAVE FINISHED MY PAINTING!!!

So I have finished my painting of the pencil and its title is "This is not a pencil." I painted a dark red for a background, and it actually looked good!

Term 2 Goals Update

In maths I have done great in improving with decimals and fractions and now I have added percentages to the list. I have received my first percentages work sheet and I have completed it with no problems. For catholic character I haven't achieved to volunteer to do the collection. In physical I have achieved to get the skilled year 8's out. I have picked up at least 5 pieces of rubbish a day for service to the school.

Art Reflection Update

I am doing okay with the blending and shading of painting but I still really need to work on thick and thin lines. Also I need to perfect making straight lines. This week we have to paint a simple object for our art task. I picked a pencil to paint so I could get a challenge to do straight, thick and thin lines.

Painting 'Ceci n'est pas une pipe' !

This week we have to paint a picture by Rene Magritte. It is called 'Ceci n'est pas une pipe'. It means this is not a pipe. Anyway it is pretty simple when you see the painting but it's a whole lot different to paint it. I had trouble with the shading and blending, and I got the position of the pipe wrong on the actual paper. Any way I quite liked the shape of my pipe, to me it was just right. The blending had a bit of work to do but I pulled it off. I also had trouble with the writing of the statement in script ( linking ). But in all I guess my painting was okay.

Science Fair Project

As Term 2 starts we have been given an assignment to carry out a scientific investigation. My science project has something to do with filtering engine oil. Last year the year group above me did astonishing projects. Some were tests for the eye like if can see the illusion. I've seen a lot of people do an investigation on rotting food. Our project is due on week 10 on Wednesday, I think the due date was July the !9th. Right now it is the start of week 5!

Basic Facts and Problem Solving!

In my basic facts so far I've gotten 100%. Basic facts is a test of basic equations for example 7x8=56. It includes addition,subtraction,multiplication and division. To improve I could start getting a better time, my current fastest time was 2 miutes and 45 seconds for 100 equasions. Since I'm great with my basic facts I need to improve in my problem solving skills. She said that it was part reading, her  advice was to read the question carefully. I started thinking that is just an equasion put into words.

Term 2 Starts!

Term 2 is here which means theres more work to be done. We did alot in the holidays like watching a movie and going to birthday parties. I have finished all my school work and now I have to watch my classmates uncompleted role play.

THE HOLIDAYS ARE HERE!

It's the school holidays and it's time to sit back and relax. But somehow I kind of feel sad that I don't get to go  school. I haven't done much, this holiday is going to be a bit boring apart from bowling on Friday. But who knows what next week holds.

Statistics Unit

We have finished the Statistics unit, I enjoyed it. The graph that I liked the most was the pie graph. It had the use of the protractor. I liked learning the measurement of the angles, for me it was easy. I found out that there is a difference between bar graphs and histograms. My friend got it wrong on the first time. He thought that the bar graph was the histogram, and so he got it wrong. I also learned about averages, mean, mode range and median. I memorised it because you can easily get it wrong. In the end I learned a lot about it.

E.O.T.C Week

E.O.T.C week finished and it was fun. Not one day did it rain, everyday was either sunny or cloudy. Mostly sunny.

First was Walk up a mountain which was excercise, but I didn't quite like it. Next was sports at the gym, games was what we actually did. Now that was enjoyable. Then came the film festival, it was boring except for the first part which was interesting. But the rest sadly was really boring. Next we traveled all over the city visiting the space observatory, a museum and a gallery. Now that was amazing. We even got to record videos to share in the end with an Ipad. Finally came another art gallery but we got to swim in the pool afterwards.

The week has given me some new experiences that made me learn a whole bunch of things. It was not only educational but it was awesome with excitement everywhere we go. While we did this year 8's were at camp and had their fun too!

Now I haven't told you about myself. My name is Renzo Ubaldo, I like playing basketball and swimming. I am New Zealand born, and part filipino.

E.O.T.C (education outside the classroom)

While year 8's are at camp year 7's will have a week of trips to various places. Firstly we tramp up Mt. Kaukau, a mountain not far from school. Then activities at a recreation centre, probably sports. Film Festival is next but I have no idea what it is, maybe like video and camera stuff. Capital E connections is like museums, history and more educational stuff. Finally we visit an art museum and swim in one of my favourite swimming pools

Learning German

Languages is one of my favourite subjects. It not only let's you learn the language but sometimes learn the whole culture. We learned the basics like hello and bye, but i don't know if we learn deeper into the language. We have been given a work sheet to work on and we have been given a task to drawa title page.

Writing an Origin Story

Writing an origin story is not that hard for me. I'm actually great at it, I even got an award for it! I'm not going to tell you about it all, but I'll tell the highlights. I combined it from alot of fantastic books I've read and made it my own. He's a baby sold to a bad society and made an experiments. He was a failure and put down for adoption. He was adopted by a rich couple and soon began to learn his unexpected powers secretly. His parents are murdered and robbed and soon is put into the orphanage. In university he thinks of an idea to save the world from crime, by doing that he's avenging his parents with out murdering. I've written alot of good stories and for a minute I wanted to become a writer. But I'm going to be an electronic engineer.

Superhero Comic Art

In class we are suppose to make a three panel comic. It has to be coloured in and have alot of shading.We have to make a superhero, that means alot of detail. My superhero, Psychromancer, is a psychic and necromancer. Psychic is like teleporting, telekinesis, future sight and all sorts of stuff. Necromancer is death, shadows and scary stuff. I'll try to upload a picture if I can get some help from a classmate. Now back to the art, I'm going pretty well but I've ruined 3 pages and I am on my fourth.

Introducing Post

It is 2013 and I am a year 7!!! I'm excited of my new rights in the school and the many occasions in this year! Mostly I'm excited to create my own blog, I get to post and costumize my blog.
